The Luminary Series
The story of the Luminary 2024 Edition
The Dalmore Luminary No.2 2024 Edition
Explore how luminaries from the worlds of whisky and architectural design came together to create the latest chapter in The Dalmore Luminary Series, in partnership with V&A Dundee, Scotland’s design museum.
Our Luminary Architect
Melodie Leung is Associate Director at the internationally acclaimed design studio, Zaha Hadid Architects. Melodie was struck by the sculptural shapes and glowing copper of The Dalmore's stills, and the maturation process which sees flavours interact and combine to create something new. Drawing on the distinctive fluid and curving style of Zaha Hadid Architects, she interpreted this alchemy into an exceptional sculptural form for the bottle and presentation case – a perfect complement to the flavours within the whisky.
“Working with The Dalmore team has been a rich and rewarding process of discovery and creation. There exist many parallels between our worlds, the ways we strive to create the most extraordinary of experiences.”
Our Luminary Master Whisky Maker
Master Distiller of the Year at Icons of Whisky Scotland Awards 2023, Gregg Glass is renowned for combining tradition with visionary ideas. Inspired by Melodie’s childhood memories of chestnuts, he unlocked a new flavour dimension to accentuate the recipe, hand-toasting one of the finishing casks for The Rare to enhance its rich layers. And for the 16 Year Old Limited Edition, Gregg used a small proportion of exceptionally rare peated Dalmore to add a whisper of sweet herbal woodsmoke.
The Rare
Melodie Leung’s beautiful sculpture houses a 49 Year Old Single Malt, finished in a bespoke hybrid cask hand-toasted by Gregg Glass himself. This unique cask adds notes of sweet smoke and enhances the floral and herbal qualities of the rare Dalmore. The Rare is masterpiece of cask curation and experimentation.
The Luminary 2024 16 year old
A one-of-a-kind expression from The Dalmore, featuring a small amount of exceptionally rare peated Dalmore spirit. This introduces a whisper of roasted chestnut, an atypical flavour note for the distillery, but offering a beautiful complement to the distinctive elements of the house style.
